Formwork FAQs

01. What is the process of formwork?

The process of formwork involves constructing temporary molds to shape and support concrete until it hardens and gains sufficient strength. It begins with designing and assembling the formwork system, ensuring it can withstand the pressure of the wet concrete. Once the concrete is poured and sets, the formwork is carefully removed, leaving the desired shape and structure.

The time required for formwork depends on the complexity and scale of the project. Generally, formwork can take several days to weeks to install, with an additional curing period after the concrete is poured. The curing process typically lasts 7 to 28 days, depending on the concrete’s strength requirements, before the formwork is removed.

03. What are the types of common formwork?

The common types of formwork include traditional timber formwork, engineered wood formwork and steel formwork. Timber formwork is cost-effective and flexible for small projects, while engineered wood is durable and reusable. Steel formwork is ideal for heavy loads and precise finishes. Each type is chosen based on the project’s needs and budget.
